When we get your application, we send you an email confirming you’re a registered volunteer.

    1. You get 1 hour for every 15 origami you make and send. The origami does not have to be the same as the others. No matter the shape or size, 15 origami will equate to 1 hour.

    2. Then you send the completed origami to the address (list in bio)

    3. Request hours using this form once you’ve completed a service activity. We’ll send any confirmation needed & update your volunteer hours on our system if we accept. https://forms.gle/H599hq5ako6VktiB9

  • We are an international nonprofit that sends origami to the elderly, youth, and soldiers worldwide in order to inspire creativity and appreciation for Japanese art and culture. We carry out our mission through origami workshops, offering volunteer opportunities even to international students, hosting competitions, and fundraising for the nonprofit. The story involves OFG which was founded by Thyra F. in March of 2024. The nonprofit was inspired by a friendship that made origami hearts for other people during a time when she was suffering from mental issues such as Depression and Anxiety disorder. We offer a bunch of opportunities for everyone from volunteering, executive team, to even becoming a chapter founder.

  • If someone else starts a chapter in your area, you have three options:

    1. Base the chapter in a nearby city. You don’t have to live in this city or go to this city often this is just to avoid duplicate names

    2. Join the previous chapter as a co-founder or executive team member

    3. Base the chapter in your school or in a bigger area like the county/province. Again like the first option you don’t have to make the chapter that big this is just so that there’s no duplicates.

  • Once you complete the chapter interest form, you attend a scheduled orientation with us which discusses your responsibilities among other things. After attending the scheduled orientation you can create an Instagram account and continue as a chapter leader from there.

  • As a chapter founder responsibilities include organizing events, social media, and maintaining leadership. You host fundraisers like restaurant partnerships to raise money. Additionally, you can do origami workshops, where participants learn and donate their creations, or set up drives for donated origami. Managing your chapter's Instagram is also regularly posting content like origami tuts and updates. These efforts are recognized through service awards, and US residents can get the PVSA

  • You might have to pay for postage. However, it is usually around $2-6, depending on where the origami is sent. In the future, once we have more donation funds, we plan on giving out more assistance with shipping fees.

  • After making origami, you put it into an envelope, write one of the facility addresses you’d like to send it to, and send it at your local post office. You might have to pay for postage but it is usually around $2-6 depending on where you send it. In the future once we have more donation funds we plan on giving out more assistance with shipping fees!

  • If you have a loved one in a facility, are in good relations with another facility, or have a local facility that would help make volunteering more accessible, please provide us their contact info and we will inquire with them shortly about a partnership.

  • Totally! We’ve had many chapters in the past which are just different clubs (AAPI, Origami, Asian culture, Japanese, etc). Additionally, you can organize origami workshops, which can be both in-person and online, where participants learn and donate their creations, or set up collection drives for donated origami pieces.

  • You don’t actually have to buy origami paper. We have a tutorial on how to make origami paper from regular paper or construction paper which I can send to you + some origami instructions don’t even require square origami paper and I can send some to you as well.

  • 1. Make your own origami paper at home. we have a tutorial that shows u how to make ur own paper out of regular printer/construction/notebook paper which I can send

    2. If you have a loved one in a facility, are in good relations with another facility, or have a local facility that would help make volunteering more accessible, please provide us their contact info and we will inquire with them shortly. This way the shipping fee will cost much less or even be free if the facility is accessible enough

  • This has been a very frequent question asked among our chapter founders. So far we decided that it is up to the chapter founder. Various chapters and what we prefer is to make their own form and take care of their volunteers from there. if volunteers need to request service hours and have registered under a form you make, you can optionally make your own form for requesting service hours as well. If your chapter is in the US and your volunteers are eligible for the PVSA, just let us know 💝

  • We apologize for the inconvenience. When you scheduled your interview on appointlet, the platform should automatically send you an email with a generated link on it. You can access this email by searching up “Appointlet” in the email you used to schedule your interview.

  • Yes, you can use stars! We have disbanded the size rule, meaning that all origami of all sizes can count. No matter the size, 15 pieces will always equate to 1 hour of community service.

  • Depending on your origami, this may vary. If you have a bulk amount of origami (80+), sending a box may be better for shipping fees and using less packaging. If you’d only plan to send 15-45 origami at the time, I suggest using envelopes or a smaller box. We do encourage some people will put stuffing in between origami in boxes so they don’t crinkle but this is up to you.

  • The origami is sent out to seniors, soldiers, or youth which are typically communities who are undervalued and/or don’t receive as much social connection. We have received thank you letters back from the facilities talking about how sending origami has actually made their day. Additionally, we have 60+ chapters and a few of them have sent their origami to cancer patients, elementary schools, hospitals, etc. basically just think of it as art therapy for both volunteer and receiver. In a way you could compare it to sending cards without having words but instead communicate love through folds of traditional Japanese art. 🫶

  • It’s possible that when you registered, you either had a typo, iCloud/hotmail email, or a private email. Please contact our volunteer department for further assistance.

  • Due to the bulk number of chapters being made, we no longer create the announcement posts of the chapters. We will however, accept a Instagram post collaboration request if your chapter posts their own introductory post using the template given to you after orientation. Thank you for choosing origami for good💗🫶
